Heritage of Hussars

2025. July 7.
A new temporary exhibition titled “Heritage of Hussars” opened at Herend Porcelain Museum, evoking the traditions and spirit of the Hungarian hussars, complemented by Herend porcelain works of art.
Dr. Attila Bán, Director of Hungarian Ministry of Defence Military History Institute and Museum, Tibor Székely, President of Hungarian Hussar and Military Traditions Association, and Dr. Attila Simon, CEO of Herend Porcelain Manufactory, welcomed the guests. In their speeches, they highlighted how important it is for people of today to also cherish such eternal values as courage, discipline, honour, patriotism and courtesy.
The relationship between Herend and the hussars is not new: several hussar figurines can be found among the Manufactory’s products, including one of the most famous, the Hussar Looking at His Blade, which is a worthy symbol of these heroic traditions.
The festive atmosphere of the opening ceremony was enhanced by the visit of Sümeg cavalry hussars and the performance of an actor, pianist and violinist of Veszprém Petőfi Theatre, evoking the atmosphere of the era with hussar songs.
